We Will Not Forget. We Will Not Leave Them Alone.
Sabra for Holocaust Survivors in Israel
Helping Holocaust survivors in Israel with dignity, compassion, and practical care
through the work of the Sabra Foundation.
“Do not cast me off in the time of old age;
forsake me not when my strength is spent.”
Psalm 71:9

Not Merely Old Age — Living Witnesses
The Holocaust survivors living among us are not only elderly people in need of practical
help.
They are living witnesses to one of the darkest chapters in human history.
These men and women carry memories the world must never forget—memories of loss,
hunger, fear, and unimaginable cruelty.
Many of them were children when darkness fell over Europe, watching families torn apart
and entire communities destroyed simply because they were Jews.
A Scar on Humanity
The Holocaust was not merely another episode of persecution.
It was a stain on humanity itself.
Hatred toward the Jewish people became organized, systematic, and industrial. A machinery
of destruction was created with one purpose: the annihilation of an entire people.
Children, mothers, fathers, and grandparents – whole communities – were humiliated,
starved, uprooted, deported, and murdered.
The survivors who live among us today carry this history within them.
The Pain Did Not End When the War Ended
After the war, many survivors came to the Land of Israel.
They rebuilt their lives from the ashes. They worked, built families, and helped build the
nation.
Yet the wounds of the past do not simply disappear.
Even after decades, the memories remain. And as strength fades with age, the need for
dignity, compassion, friendship, and human warmth becomes even greater.
Sabra Stands with Holocaust Survivors
At Sabra, we see it as both a privilege and a responsibility to stand beside Holocaust
survivors in cities and communities across Israel.
For us, this is not simply social work.
It is an act of remembrance, honor, and gratitude.
Through our actions we want every survivor to know:
- We remember you.
- We honor you.
- And we will not leave you alone.
Practical Help for a Life of Dignity
Sabra helps meet essential daily needs – food, medicine, medical equipment, mobility aids,
transportation, and practical support in everyday life.
Sometimes the smallest acts carry the greatest meaning:
a ride to a clinic, help with errands, or assistance at home.
These simple acts restore dignity, stability, and peace of mind.
Not Only the Body Needs Care — The Heart as Well
For many survivors, loneliness can be one of the deepest wounds in later life.
That is why Sabra volunteers do more than provide material support.
They visit homes, sit and listen, hold a hand, share conversation, and bring human warmth.
Often the greatest gift is simply knowing that someone remembers and cares.
A Moral Responsibility
Standing beside Holocaust survivors is not merely an act of charity.
It is a human responsibility, a moral responsibility, and for many believers also a
spiritual responsibility.
As Scripture says:
“You shall rise before the aged and honor the face of the elderly”
Leviticus 19:32
In the case of Holocaust survivors, this honor carries an even deeper meaning. They remind
us what happens when hatred, indifference, and cruelty are allowed to rule.
We Will Not Forget
Through the work of Sabra, we seek to bring dignity, compassion, and heartfelt gratitude
into the remaining years of Holocaust survivors in Israel.
We want them to know that after all they have endured, they are not alone.
The people of Israel-and friends of Israel around the world-stand beside them with
remembrance, respect, and compassion.
We will not forget.
We will not leave them alone.
And as the prophet Isaiah reminds us:
“Even to your old age I am He,
and even to gray hairs I will carry you.
I have made, and I will bear;
I will carry and I will save.”
Isaiah 46:4
